When I first started this blog, it was more about the “stuff” that I like. Books, brands, ideas, music, etc. I’ve simultaneously branched out and narrowed my focus at the same time over the last year, and so I don’t talk about the “stuff” as much anymore.
But, with daylight saving time fast approaching, I need something to keep me focused on the good “stuff.” Fall and winter is often a harder season for me to stay positive because I am fueled by the sun. And green grass. And beach trips. Without those things, I mostly just want to hibernate until the sun comes back. So, I’ve decided to find one good thing each week during the gloomy season, so instead of listening to that voice in my head that says, “Ugggh, everything sucks,” I can focus instead on looking for things that don’t.
So, this week, the thing I like is kind of a no brainer… carbs! Right out of the oven!
My roommate is making traditional German baked goods to raise money so that she can afford to take her kitten with her to her new job. She adopted the kitten in May from a shelter, but recently got a job offer in the UK, and the pet moving costs are pretty high.
Anyway, the cookies are delicious, but these pretzels are so good. Carby + salty + fresh is probably the best combination.

If there ever comes a time in my life when the doctor says, "You need to gain a lot of weight, and the best way to do that is by overloading on carbs," I'm heading straight for these guys.
Do you find fall/winter/short cold days to be more of a struggle to stay positive? If so, what is your strategy for staying upbeat?

I CAN HAZ PRETZEL?
LOL
Where do I find these German goods? I want to support your roomie and her kitty!
We are working on a mail system, but since you are so close maybe I can arrange for her to bake some before our next blogger meet up!
Fall/winter days are harder for me to stay positive. I try to get rest and keep the rooms bright — be it with decor (bright flowers) or lights — and key is exercise. If your roommate does mail order, let me know. Those pretzels look delicious. Any chance of sharing recipe?
I think I need to work on my decor. I haven’t really done anything since I moved in since I know I won’t be staying here long.
She and I are talking about the logistics of mail order. Would you mind DM-ing me your address on twitter? I want to send Mia a card.
Hopefully I can get her recipe, but it might be later in the year. She says they are really easy, as far as ingredients go. It is just a process when it comes to kneading, rising, waiting, etc.
I love homemade soft pretzels! And I love kitties. The weather does affect my mood, but I do my best to surround myself with things I love. Case in point: I’m making some potato soup tonight to warm me up inside and out
