I love birthdays and doing things for people’s birthdays, and Carlton is kind of the opposite. I decided to celebrate for him by making one of his favorite foods, scallops. The only problem is that I’m not a huge seafood fan and I’ve never actually made anything that swims (floats? exists?) in the sea. So of course, I used my googling skills and found this recipe for Broiled Scallops on AllRecipes.com.
It was quick, simple and had good reviews so I went for it. Then I went for the scallops, and um, did you guys know they cost like $12 a pound? Do you know how many lentils I could buy for that?? But, since it was for a special occasion, I went with the big daddy scallops instead of the sad $6 per pound version they had.
I normally don’t repost recipes if I didn’t write them, but I have given credit and this is too simple to force you to wait. The only ingredients are scallops, 2 Tbs melted butter, 1 Tbs lemon juice (the recipe calls for 2, but that is too much) and garlic salt.
Wash the scallops and then put them into a baking dish. Sprinkle with the salt and pour the butter and lemon juice mixture over the top. Broil until they turn golden. And that is it.
They looked nice and they tasted fine to me, but I’m not a good judge of seafood. Carlton like them, I think.

The obligatory Food-blogger's-dudebro eating picture. I kept it real by NOT cleaning off his messy "dining room" table for my photoshoot.
So yes, I recommend that recipe if you`re looking for a quick way to cook scallops.
What I don’t recommend is that shrimp pasta. I was in a hurry after driving an hour to make dinner, so instead of making something myself I copped out and bought Macaroni Grill-brand frozen pasta. It was more for Carlton, and he doesn’t really value things from scratch as much as I do. He gets excited when they boil eggs for him at the grocery store. Anyway, the pasta was not good. Even Carlton said it was bad, and he eats McDonald’s five times a week.
I wanted to share that specifically, because when I googled Macaroni Grill frozen pastas I find a bunch of really positive reviews from bloggers who got free packages about how awesome and flavorful it was. You were not eating the same stuff I was eating.
Do you have special occasion dishes that you like to serve or be served?

Wait, am I supposed to be taking pictures of my dudebro eating my food? Crap, I didn’t know… Scallops are expensive. So are shrimp. And so is anything that exists in the sea, really. Except maybe catfish. I’ve been wanting salmon for like 6 months but haven’t been able to part with my money. Sucks about the pasta.
Those scallops are huge!!! I didnt realize just how big they were til I saw them on his plate! Yeah those Macaroni Grill dinners are gross,a nd over priced.
So interesting what you say about bloggers that got it for free. Thats why I try not to review anything that I hated. Better to say nothing at all than to lie. (Wow, lots of grammatical issues tonight. Sorry!)
The scallops are also delicious flavored with a little sherry!! My personal preference with them is a baked potatoe with butter and sour cream!
I love scallops and I love easy recipes. I’ll make this, but without that pasta. Sounds nastay.
I like to be served a bowl of Cool Whip. I’m easy to please.
For ever special occasion, Stephen and I used to go to Senor Tequilas and order Pollo al chipotle. We ate at Senor T’s consistently for about 2 years. I don’t really have much of a taste for chicken anymore, and Stephen is very upset about my new disinterest in cheap Mexican.
